1984 FISHBOWL by Danny Cheung
$430

The futuristic fish home that was the star of Australian design exhibition WORKSHOPPED 01 debuts for sale in September 2005. The 1984 Fishbowl by Danny Cheung that received rave reviews as a prototype in 2001 both locally and internationally (most notably Wallpaper* magazine) will be launched as part of this year's Sydney Design Week.

The 1984 Fishbowl reperesent WORKSHOPPED's first foray into manufacturing and realises its core objective of assisting designers to move from prototype to production...turning ideas into a commercial reality; ready for the world stage.

Cheung describes his inspiration for the 1984 Fishbowl as:

"Life inside a goldfish bowl ain't a lot of fun without a little privacy! The intention with 1984 was to create a true sense of abode for our beloved little friends; solid white walls and three generous (domed) portholes with views from the hallway to the living room"

The fishbowl was inspired by and takes its name from the novel 1984 by George Orwell. The design is innovative in meeting the needs of a non-human species, a design which ironically engages our own instinctive curiosity. The domed portholes effectively create an ethereal magnifying lens for compelling entertainment. The fish use the opaque walls for refuge and peer out the windows when curiosity strikes."

AERO by Eric Siu

A functional piece of furniture that is conscious of production processes and material usage... The table employs a simple use of material and form to create a complicated arrangement of elements... clean straight lines that run the perimeter and outline the body, flat planes that begin together, separate swooping down and around the footing then flowing up and meeting again at the top surface.
