Workshopped 2010

WORKSHOPPED 10 | LAUNCH Wednesday 4 August 2010
CHIFLEY PLAZA, SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA.

WORKSHOPPED 10 Great design endures, demands attention and is fit for purpose. Our 10th exhibition will exemplify endurance, attention and purpose.

INSPIRING:Now in its tenth year, WORKSHOPPED design exhibition has become a permanent and widely anticipated fixture of Sydney Design. Co-presented with the Powerhouse Museum, the free exhibition will showcase 40 designers from across Australia at Chifley Plaza from 5 – 14 August. Our largest ever exhibition.
Many of the designers have successfully exhibited as part of WORKSHOPPED in previous years and return for 10, recognising the importance of the prestigious event for showcasing their designs.
This year designers were asked How will their design fit with WORKSHOPPED 10?

2010 is a seminal year for WORKSHOPPED. For a decade, at each annual WORKSHOPPED Exhibition, we've nurtured Australian design excellence and facilitated successful commercial relationships between designers, industry and the marketplace. From beginning in 2001 with just 5 designers, we grew in 2009 to exhibiting the works of 30 top designers from NSW, ACT,VIC, WA and USA. Over 75,000 people view the exhibition showcased at the striking Chifley Plaza over 10 days. Each year with our co-presenter, the Powerhouse Museum, we challenge designers to respond to the brief and the challenges of the journey from prototype to production. In 2009 we asked how each designer's work would create the future and make a difference. Designers, including Akira Isogawa and 29 others responded magnificently. This year we've asked designers to respond to the proposition that 'good design endures, demands attention and is fit for purpose'. We look forward to seeing how this year's applicants demonstrate how their design similarly performs, to be included in WORKSHOPPED 10. VITAL: The WORKSHOPPED exhibition is a vital platform for nurturing Australian design excellence and launching the careers of designers. Once again we welcome the Powerhouse Museum in co-presenting this dynamic forum, which provides a launching pad for emerging designers. Chifley Plaza will also host the WORKSHOPPED exhibition and the highly anticipated opening night, which attracts leading figures in design, architecture, manufacturing and media.

VIABLE: WORKSHOPPED exhibitions have been created out of necessity. Before the first in 2001, designers had few avenues in getting their designs out to the public. Creating and maintaining successful commercial relationships with industry and the marketplace was also extremely difficult. Now, many designers who have exhibited at WORKSHOPPED exhibitions have their works in commercial production and exposed to potential buyers. An exciting development for this year’s WORKSHOPPED is the launch of the new retail space in Surry Hills. The WORKSHOPPED SHOP will present products designed by WORKSHOPPED designers available to both wholesale and retail customers and retail other Australian designs.

Our Aim is: “To nurture Australian design excellence and facilitate successful commercial relationships between designers, industry and the market, both locally and internationally.”
