Alex Gilmour & Dominic Chong (Robin Lamp)
The designers Alex and Dominic have experience across product design consultancy, offshore manufacturing, project management, exhibition and display industries, furniture and lighting design as well as graphic design for print and web. The Evie range of homewares, lighting and furniture designs are inspired by cross-cultural forms with hidden complexities to create products that convey simplicity, elegance and above all a timeless aesthetic.
The first Evie product launch was featured in Workshopped 2010. The products, Emily Tea Set and Frederick Glassware went on to win the Qantas SOYA Industrial and Object Design category. Products are designed for the user to grow an emotive attachment to. The aesthetics, the ritual of use and the product names are carefully considered to add a sense of personality to their designs. The Evie Group’s aim is to design products for the way you live.
The Robin floor and table lamps were designed to create a family of lights. Robin gets its name from a bird like aesthetic and the way in which the lights can be maneuvered.
The two sizes of the floor and table lamp use inversed structure elements to achieve a proportional relationship with each other, imitating the appearance of a parent and child.
Bird legs are mimicked through the stem like structure and slim base. The shade options in white, black and yellow aim to reflect a robin’s colouring.
There are two pivot points, one on the stem and the second on the shade. This allows the user to adjust the angle and position of the light. The lights are made from a square tubular aluminium frame, powder coated spun aluminium shade and metal base.
