Danny Cheung

Born in Sydney, 1975. Danny Cheung graduated with a Bachelor of Industrial Design from UTS in 1997. He began his career with seminal industrial design consultancy, Design Field for 3 Years as an industrial designer. In 1999 he joined Urban Art Projects as Sydney Design Manager, working with contemporary aboriginal artists Judy Watson and Brooke Andrew for the Sydney Olympics. In the same year he won a grant from the Australia Council for furniture design which funded a trip to Italy to meet with the major design houses. In 2000 the Dada wall-clock was produced by Italian manufacturer Progetti and was the company’s first injection moulded product.

Danny Cheung was an original exhibitor with workshopped_001 in 2001. He exhibited the Dada clock, the X-Chair and the 1984 Fishtank which received critical acclaim and was published in magazines around the world including Italy, Sweden and North America. Around the time of workshopped_001, dkcheung was established as an industrial design business with principal clients Sebel and Fineseat Manufacturers.

Dkcheung prefers to engage in work which is challenging. He believes in delivering solutions which are sophisticated and well resolved. His design methods involve the use of the latest 3D modeling software based on a long apprenticeship served in the traditional studio and workshop crafts. This year he launches his own label, Science, with a range of cantilevered lounge chairs called Clipspringer.
