‘The Wooden City’ – designs for a regressive future
In the not-too distant future there exists a place called ‘The Wooden City’. It will be established as a refuge for humanity set in a post-apocalyptic environment some time after global melt down. Living conditions from within will indeed be challenging. It will be a time of rigorous adaptation and re-evaluation, where commodities such as food and fuel were not to be wasted and the day to day responsibilities took an almost monastic orderliness about them. Such conditions would highlight the need for traditional crafts such as timber and metal work to be called upon once again to produce wares of enduring cherishability and sustainability. To accommodate such change, here in lies a range of tableware for ‘The Wooden City’ brought back into present tense for the consumer today.
‘providore’ A measured vessel, vital in its future role as an indicator and distributor of rationed foodstuffs.
‘by deduction’ A candle-lit testing laboratory from which scientists will orchestrate highly involved experiments to uncover where humanity went awry.
‘interlude’ A gaming console that embodies the necessary lifestyle changes brought about by conditions from within ‘The Wooden City’. The luxuries of today will be replaced by devices of leisure more commonly depicted from a by-gone era.
